DJ達のDJと呼ばれている。彼はブースに立つとき、微笑を浮かべながらも、最初のトラックから最後のビートまで正確かつ情熱的に音の景色を描き上げることで知られている。Deep、Soulful、Afro、Techのサウンドを通じてアフロをベースにした音楽で旅を紡ぎ、ジャンルの境界を激しく、そして感情的に曖昧にしていく。忍耐強く完璧なミックスに定評があり、常に珍しいサウンドや革新的なプロデューサーを追求し、創造性と新鮮なエネルギーをあらゆるパフォーマンスにもたらしている。

ドミニカ共和国サント・ドミンゴ生まれ。ラテンアメリカにおけるエレクトロミュージックの新興聖地として知られるその地で、幼少期にパーカッショニストとして音楽の道を歩み始め、90年代後半にDJへ転向。2000年までにサント・ドミンゴの“Ocho Puertas”のレジデントDJとなり、島内でも最も格式ある会場でプレイした。2003年に渡米後、すぐにシーンで存在感を確立。2006年にはCarlos Mena主催のマイアミ、ボストン、ニューヨークの名パーティー“BEMBE”のレジデントDJとして国際的な注目を集めた。2008年にはボストンの“UHURU AFRIKA”に加わり、2011年にはNYを拠点としたGale Murphyの“ARE YOU AFRO?”のレジデントDJを務める。2013年にはJay Medinaと共に自身の月例パーティー“HOUSE OF PELA”をボストンでスタートさせた。

2014年に日本へ移住し、全国のトップヴェニューでパフォーマンスを続ける。2017年には“Kyoto Deep”を設立し、2020年まで京都アンダーグラウンドシーンの中心的存在として活動。2022年にはカサブランカでのサンセットリチュアルとして始まった“BABALÚ”を立ち上げ、今やアフロルーツのリズムを届ける関西随一のイベントに成長させた。2025年現在、大阪のW Osakaの音楽チームに所属し、Yuuki Yoshiyama、Dmitri Absintheと共にトップ3レジデントDJの一人として活動している。

現在、MAXはアフロハウスの分野における世界的リーダーの一人として認識され、世界中を旅しながら、彼のプロダクション会社“Afrobeta Bodega”を通じてアフロルーツのサウンドを届けている。

Afrobeta BodegaはMAX自身が創設した多面的なプラットフォームであり、アフロハウスとアンダーグラウンドカルチャーを推進する国際的なハブとして機能。先鋭的で多文化なリスナーに向け、音楽的冒険心を刺激するフレッシュなコンテンツを提供している。プラットフォームの重要な機能の一つである“Afrobeta Bodega Radio”では、新進気鋭の才能によるDJセットや、世界中のMAXのライブ録音を厳選して発信している。

Max Pela is a true “DJ’s DJ,” known for stepping into the booth with an infectious smile and sculpting the sonic landscape with precision and passion from the first track to the last beat. His Afrobetarney through deep, soulful, Afro, and tech-infused sounds, seamlessly blurring genre lines with intensity and emotion. Renowned for patient, flawless mixing, Max constantly seeks uncommon sounds and innovative producers, bringing creativity and fresh energy to every performance.

Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic — Latin America’s emerging mecca for electronic music — Max’s musical journey began in childhood as a percussionist. He transitioned to DJing in the late ’90s, becoming the resident DJ at Ocho Puertas in Santo Domingo by 2000, where he played the island’s most prestigious venues.

In 2003, Max moved to the United States and quickly established himself on the scene. By 2006, he was resident DJ at Carlos Mena’s acclaimed BEMBE party in Miami, Boston, and New York City, gaining international recognition. In 2008, he joined Adam Gibbons for Boston’s UHURU AFRIKA, followed by a residency at Gale Murphy’s NYC-based ARE YOU AFRO? in 2011. In 2013, he launched HOUSE OF PELA, his monthly Boston party with Jay Medina. In 2014, Max relocated to Japan, where he continues to perform at top venues across the country. In 2017, he founded Kyoto Deep, which became a staple in the city’s underground scene until 2020. In 2022, he launched BABALÚ, a beloved Afro House gathering that began as a sunset ritual at Casablanca and has since become Kansai’s go-to event for Afro-rooted rhythms. As of 2025, Max is a core member of the W Osaka music team, serving as one of its top three resident selectors alongside Yuuki Yoshiyama and Dmitri Absinthe.

Today, Max is recognized globally as a leading force in Afro House, traveling the world to share his signature Afro-rooted sound through his production company, Afrobeta Bodega.

Afrobeta Bodega is a multifaceted platform founded by Max to promote Afro House and underground culture. It serves as an international hub for trendsetting, multicultural audiences, delivering fresh content for early adopters and musically adventurous listeners. Afrobeta Bodega Radio, a key feature of the platform, showcases handpicked sets from new talent and live recordings from Max’s electrifying performances worldwide.
