Max Pela は、まさに“DJ’s DJ”と呼ぶにふさわしい存在だ。ブースに立つその瞬間から、魅力的な笑顔とともにフロアを包み込み、最初の一曲からラストの一音まで、情熱と緻密さでサウンドスケープを描き上げていく。ディープ、ソウルフル、アフロ、そしてテックを自在に行き来し、ジャンルの境界線を鮮やかに溶かすそのプレイは、常にエモーショナルで圧倒的。忍耐強く完璧なミキシングで知られ、常に新しいサウンドや革新的なプロデューサーを追い求め、毎回のセットに独創性と新鮮なエネルギーを注ぎ込む。
ラテンアメリカ随一のエレクトロニック・ミュージック都市へと進化を続ける、ドミニカ共和国サントドミンゴ出身。幼少期はパーカッショニストとして音楽に触れ、90年代後半にDJとしてのキャリアをスタート。2000年にはサントドミンゴの名門クラブ「Ocho Puertas」のレジデントとなり、島を代表するトップ・ヴェニューで活躍した。
2003年にはアメリカへ拠点を移し、その才能は瞬く間にシーンで注目を浴びる。2006年には Carlos Mena 率いる伝説的パーティ「BEMBE」（マイアミ／ボストン／NYC）のレジデントに抜擢され、国際的な評価を獲得。2008年には Adam Gibbons とともにボストンの「UHURU AFRIKA」に参加し、2011年には Gale Murphy 主催のNYC「ARE YOU AFRO?」のレジデントDJとして活躍。2013年には Jay Medina とともにボストンで自身のパーティ「HOUSE OF PELA」を立ち上げた。
2014年に日本へ移住してからは、全国各地のトップヴェニューを中心にプレイ。2017年には京都のアンダーグラウンドシーンを象徴する存在となった「Kyoto Deep」を主宰。2022年にはカサブランカでのサンセット・リチュアルとして始まった「BABALÚ」をスタートさせ、現在では関西を代表するアフロハウス・イベントとして確固たる人気を誇る。2025年からは、W Osaka の音楽チームの中核メンバーとして、Yuuki Yoshiyama、Dmitri Absinthe とともにトップ3のレジデント・セレクターを務めている。
現在、Max は世界的に“アフロハウスを牽引するアーティスト”として認められ、彼の世界観とアフロ・ルーツを宿したサウンドを、プロダクションチーム Afrobeta Bodega とともに世界へ届け続けている。

Max Pela is a true “DJ’s DJ,” known for stepping into the booth with an infectious smile and sculpting the sonic landscape with precision and passion from the first track to the last beat. His sets journey through deep, soulful, Afro, and tech-infused sounds, seamlessly blurring genre lines with intensity and emotion. Renowned for patient, flawless mixing, Max constantly seeks uncommon sounds and innovative producers, bringing creativity and fresh energy to every performance.
Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic — Latin America’s emerging mecca for electronic music — Max’s musical journey began in childhood as a percussionist. He transitioned to DJing in the late ’90s, becoming the resident DJ at Ocho Puertas in Santo Domingo by 2000, where he played the island’s most prestigious venues.
In 2003, Max moved to the United States and quickly established himself on the scene. By 2006, he was resident DJ at Carlos Mena’s acclaimed BEMBE party in Miami, Boston, and New York City, gaining international recognition. In 2008, he joined Adam Gibbons for Boston’s UHURU AFRIKA, followed by a residency at Gale Murphy’s NYC-based ARE YOU AFRO? in 2011. In 2013, he launched HOUSE OF PELA, his monthly Boston party with Jay Medina. In 2014, Max relocated to Japan, where he continues to perform at top venues across the country. In 2017, he founded Kyoto Deep, which became a staple in the city’s underground scene until 2020. In 2022, he launched BABALÚ, a beloved Afro House gathering that began as a sunset ritual at Casablanca and has since become Kansai’s go-to event for Afro-rooted rhythms. As of 2025, Max is a core member of the W Osaka music team, serving as one of its top three resident selectors alongside Yuuki Yoshiyama and Dmitri Absinthe.
Today, Max is recognized globally as a leading force in Afro House, traveling the world to share his signature Afro-rooted sound through his production company, Afrobeta Bodega.
